Year 4 Summer 2 Week 2
This week, Year 4 had a fantastic time on our school trip to Mountfitchet Castle. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the castle and learning about life in the past. We were incredibly proud of how well-behaved, respectful and enthusiastic they were throughout the day.
In Maths, we have been learning about position and direction. The children have practised reading and plotting coordinates and have used their skills to interpret information presented on line graphs.
In English, we have been planning and preparing to write our own narratives inspired by our class text, Secrets of a Sun King. The children have been developing ideas about a mysterious object discovered by their character. Alongside this, we have been focusing on using pronouns effectively to refer to characters and using inverted commas accurately to punctuate speech.
In Science, we became food scientists and made our own sherbet. We investigated how changing different ingredients affected the recipe and the final outcome, making observations about taste, texture and the reactions that took place.
This week was also Healthy Eating Week. As part of our learning, the children made a delicious garden salad and enjoyed tasting the different ingredients. It was wonderful to see so many children trying new foods and discussing the importance of making healthy choices.
Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of learning!
A reminder that next Friday is Sports Day! Children should wear their PE kit and a T-shirt in their house colour.
Please could you bring in any small cardboard boxes or clean plastic bottles that you no longer need for our upcoming DT lessons. These materials will be used as part of a project later this term.
Thank you for your support!

Year 4 summer 1 week 6
Well done year 4 for completing the last week of Summer 1 term!
In English, we have written our final drafts of our informal letter. The children included the key skills of paragraphs and informal language. They wrote amazing final drafts!
In maths, we have finished our topic on shapes. We learnt about polygons, lines of symmetry and how to complete a line of symmetry. We will come back to this topic next half term to revisit names of shapes.
In shared reading, we have continues reading the secrets of a sun king. The children learnt how to give reasons for their opinions and find evidence from the text to support their answers.
In R.E, we have learnt about the Jewish ceremony which shows a child has become an adult, called Bar/ Bat Mitzvah. They created lovely posters on what happens during the celebration and how to prepare for it.
As always, please ensure your child is reading and going on TTRS 5x a week.
There is also an additional app that parents/ children can download to play on as part of a competition between other schools. This app is from language angles, which we use for French lessons. The children can collect points, and it will be added to our school total points where we could win a cash prize!
Enjoy your half term!
