Reception Summer 1 Week 5

Well done for another amazing week Reception!

This week we have been learning about sharing and grouping. Everyone could confidently share objects equally and group objects making sure they have the same amount in each group. Next week, we will be focusing on doubles and learning that a double is by adding the same numbers together.

In Topic this week we read the story of 'The enormous turnip'. We sequenced the story using picture cards and made sure they were in chronological order. Pupils used words such as; first, next, then and finally.

We discussed what characters were in the story and used adjectives to describe the turnip. Pupils then wrote sentences in their books about the turnip. Well done everyone!

Reception Summer 1 Week 4

A short but fun week in Reception.

We started our week off with an extremely fun visit from ScootFit! We practised our scooter skills and got to dance and sing while doing it.

We have been consolidating our knoweldge of 3D shapes. The pupils have become very confident at recognising, naming and describing the properties of 3D shapes.  If you want to practise at home you can listen to this catchy song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A.

Our story of the week is Erroll's Garden. Erroll creates an amazing rooftop garden for all of his neighbours to enjoy. We spoke about what plants need to grow and labelled the different parts of a plant. We have been spending lots of time in our outdoor areas, working hard to create a beautiful garden of our own.

We had brilliant fun at the disco on Tuesday - thank you to FOB for organising it!

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Reception Summer 2 Week 2

Well done for another great week everyone!

This week we continued our learning of Marvellous Machines. We looked at vehicles from the past and present. It was very interesting to look at the differences between them. We looked at different machines in our homes and spoke about what they do and where they belong. We really enjoyed reading the story 'Car Car Truck Jeep'.

In Maths this week, we explored and continued repeatting patterns. We focused on ABC patterns and created our own ABC patterns in the garden.

This week we celebrated Healthy Eating Week by making our own Fruit Yoghurt Bowl. The pupils really enjoyed this and learnt about what foods are healthy and what foods are unhealthy.

Some of you may have noticed we have had new sand delievered, the pupils have had an amazing time playing in the sandpit. Thank you so much to Sunbelt Rentals for donating it to us!

Sports Day is next Friday please wear your house colour! If you are unsure what your child's house colour is then please check the classroom windows.

Reception Summer 2 Week 1

Welcome back!

This week in Maths, we have started learning about doubling. The pupils have been exploring how adding two of the same numbers together creates a double. They have really enjoyed identifying and making doubles in a variety of ways and have shown great enthusiasm during our activities. Next week, we will be learning about repeating patterns and creating some of our own.

In Topic, we have begun our exciting new topic, 'Marvellous Machines'. We started by identifying products that use electricity to help them work and discussed how different machines do different things. We explored how a microwave works and talked about some of the foods we can cook or heat up in one. The pupils particularly enjoyed watching popcorn being heated in the mircrowave and listening carefully as it popped! Next week, we will be looking at machines from the past.

Today, we also had a very exciting assembly with a visit from Fizz Pop. The pupils watched a variety of fascinating bubble experiments and were amazed by what they saw. They enjoyed learning all about bubbles and were eager to learn more.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to another week of learning and fun.
